When in Ann Arbor, I be sure to come here. Outstanding New York Bagels.

This place is always good, great bagels and really good sandwich options.

As far as bagel places go, you won't find better than Barry's Bagels. Tucked back in the Westgate shopping plaza, Barry's is a popular morning quick breakfast stop for all. Barry's has a great selection of cream cheeses, sandwiches, soup and of course, bagels. My favorite is the Lox and cream cheese. Choose your bagel, toppings, smear and you can be out the door in about 5 minutes. The line can get long but once one of their friendly staff greets you, your order is all they focus on until you are rung up. Plenty of seating, parking and options for breakfast, lunch or afternoon snack. Take the kids to watch the kitchen works through the huge window into the kitchen, in the back of the dining area.

This has to be the most expensive bagel shop I've ever been in. It's also really slow. I will admit that the bagels are ON POINT. They have the softest dough inside that I've ever encountered. They also have a lot of good, unique flavors. I used to work nearby and bought lunch a number of times, but I wouldn't stray too far from the standard bagel option. They have really plain sandwiches, soups, and side salads that are twice as expensive as they should be. They seriously charged me over $15 for a standard size vegetarian sandwich and the worst cup of coffee... One more concession- the baked good are tantalizing. I always stare at the muffins and cookies longingly when I go for a bagel.

Barry -- can I call you Barry? First, I love your bagels. They're delicious! Fresh and perfect. Wonderful, friendly staff. It's fun to watch the bagel-making in the back. I have just one simple tweak of a suggestion: When a person takes your order, they should ask for your first name and let you know that they'll call you when it's ready. This signals to the customer that you can have a seat, relax, and that they're done at the counter. Badda bing, badda boom! The system today works like this: 1. A friendly person takes your order, and walks away. 2. You stand there, wondering if you're supposed to pay now (you're not, not yet, you pay when your order is ready). 3. You shuffle forward towards the cash register wondering if you're still in line. 4. You feel a little anxious about whether or not the cluster of people ahead of you are in line or not. 5. Once you arrive at the cash register, you try to make eye contact with a different friendly person. They engage and ask if you've been helped. Kind of? You've been 50% helped? 6. You now shuffle around in a loose cluster by the cash registers waiting 5-10 minutes for your order. Other people step in front of you to be rung up. No big deal, but causes a bit of anxiety your first few visits: Are you in the way? Are they cutting you in line? 7. Finally that first friendly person from #1 reappears with your order, hands you your food, and rings you up. So! Just taking each person's first name and calling them once the order is ready would allow folks to relax, have a seat, and chat with their friends / family for a few minutes as they wait patiently. Thanks for listening! Love those bagels!

Barry's is the BEST! Bagels and staff can't be beat! Even when it's busy, the line goes relatively fast. Eggels and tuna salad on a garlic bagel are family favorites as well as the chicken noodle soup and cookies! They always do a great job!!!

After all of these years it's still a local favorite and it's easy to see why: 1) High quality and wide selection of bagels, soups, and related foods. There are too many types of bagels to list here, but throw two random ingredients that could possibly be related to bagels, add "bagel" to the end of the two ingredients, and they probably have it. 2) Service. The person who takes your order is the person who creates your order is the person who takes your payment. You have a SPOC (single point of contact) for your entire experience, minimizing misunderstanding and optimizing your enjoyment. I'm very happy to see Barry Bagels is still doing well after all of these years. It's an example of a local establishment that has resisted the chains.

Great Bagels! I love how they have flavors that are different than what you may find at Panera (spinach/feta, pumpernickel). In addition, their cream cheese is much better than other bagel places. They have a ton of sandwiches, and sides in addition to muffins and coffee. The only bad thing about Barry's is that they open at 7AM during the week. That seems kind of late, I wish they opened at 6:30 so I could get a bagel before I leave for work BUT they are open late, which is great for dinner. Bagels are reasonably priced.

You know, I gotta give props to this place for keeping up with how busy they get on a weekend lunch rush. I've been a few times and have always marveled at their efficiency. They have a zillion people working and they keep the line moving expertly. Sometimes times that line is OCC and I walk in thinking "ehhh, I should go." Then I remember how fast it moves and and I stick around, in and out in no time. My only recent complaint is that I got a bag of 4 bagels and asked for a tub of cream cheese to go with them. The tub was about half full and only enough for 2 bagels. Granted, I like to slather the ish out of my bagels so for a normal person that was probably enough but a tub's a tub. I'll have to be more specific next time, I guess. Still, my order was otherwise perfect and I ordered quite a bit--both to go and to eat there. Very impressive.

My mom and I visited Barry's today to get lunch for a group of people helping my sister and her family move. We had no idea how many bagels we wanted or what kinds. The employee waiting on us was super helpful! She was very patient in talking us through our options and efficient at getting the bagels sliced and packed to go. We ended up with a Barry's dozen (14 bagels), a large tub of cream cheese, a bunch of apples, and one small coffee (it was early I needed some caffeine). The total price was $25 which was extremely reasonable. The bagels were absolutely delicious!! My favorite was the sun dried tomato bagel, the asiago cheese came in a close second. I was also a huge fan of the hazelnut coffee. I will remember Barry Bagels for the next time I'm in Ann Arbor. Definitely recommend!

These bagels are the best in Ann Arbor. The place has a hard working freindly staff and has been providing great service to Ann Arbor residence my whole life and has never changed! I recommend the sandwiches (I like turkey, a toasted onion roll with jalapeño cream cheese, or a pizza bagel. Also the classic lox with capers and all the fixin's! Yum!

I remember when a dozen bagels at Barry's was $3 (.25/ea). Well things have changed, but the bagels are still the best. Whenever I am in Toledo or Ann Arbor it is a must have. I believe they are opening two more locations in the Sandusky area to cater to the Cedar Point crowd. Note, their salt bagels are the best anywhere period. Add some cream cheese and enjoy.

Truly great bagels (try the vanilla cinnamon bagel), high-quality deli meats, and a fast-moving line. The only negative is the lack of table-washing throughout the day. Please wash the tables, Barry's!

  • Mary J.

Love Barry's! Eat in or carry out - excellent bagels that are soft inside and perfectly crusted outside. And I love when I was buying an assortment for carry out, and the minute I asked for a garlic bagel they put it in another bag. Sweeet!

Solid bagel sandwich. Excellent diet coke. So far, the best bagels I have had in Ann Arbor. Service is always very good.

Been going to Barry Bagels for a long time and really like the bagels there. I usually get a dozen (14) and toast 'em up for breakfast during the week. I stick to the garlic, salt, and raisin bagels for the most part. Chewy on the outside and soft on the inside, they toast up great and are delicious with cream cheese. I'm a big fan!!

Quick and efficient Barry is my go to spot for bagels when the mood hits. Because when the mood hits, it can't be ignored. Blame it on my being from New York. Big selection, always properly staffed, very friendly. What your corner bagel shop should be. My only complaint? I have to remember to tell them to chill on the cream cheese on the rare occasion I get it because they go over the top.

A hidden gem that we almost don't want to tell people about. Delicious bagels with unique cream cheese (try the bacon and horseradish). Tip o' the cap, Barry.

Have bought bagels here a couple times, and they are delicious! Coffee is fine. Haven't tried the sandwiches or baked goods. Simple interior, but it works.

While I have yet to try their signature bagels, a coupon in a local paper for a BOGO sandwich led me to give the place a try. The place was bustling and well staffed, and it had a roomy atmosphere, but unfortunately the sandwiches left something to be desired. When you pay almost $7 for a sandwich at a deli or bagel restaurant, you expect them to pile on the meat. But these puny sandwiches looked like less than appetizers. Not worth the cost.

I'm a huge fan of bagels and these are better than all the ones I've tried in Columbus! They are huge and since we didn't have a toaster at the hotel, I was already expecting them to not be that great but turns out these taste fabulous even when not toasted and for being a lover of extra crispy (twice toasted) that says alot. Great texture and flavor, fresh and the new oreo cream cheese get 5 million stars from me! God was that good, I could eat that straight from the bowl all day long and put it on everything. Prices are descent at 99 cent a bagel, cheaper if you get more. The cream cheese was less than $2 for the fourth a pound that I got. I had the chocolate chip, blueberry, cinnamon raisin and vanilla something and all of them were great. They had some great looking savory ones but since i got the oreo cream cheese I didn't want to pair that with the amazing looking roasted onion, so I'll save those for next time!

I've been going here off and on since high school. Even though there are different people working there now than there were ten years ago, it's the same food, which makes me happy. I don't want my bagel sandwiches to change! I took my husband here for the very first time a little while ago and he was surprised by how full it was and by the menu. He had a hard time choosing what he wanted (I always get the same thing!), but was happy with his choice. The only thing that's a little weird is the whole paying process. Most people who go there often "get" it (you wait for the person who took your order to make it, then they meet you at the registers to pay). Some other patrons seem very angry that the place doesn't work like Panera, where you can pay while waiting for your food. It's really not that weird OR a big deal, but people like to freak out when things aren't the way they think they should be. (Get the pumpernickel bagel- those are my favorite!)

This is the most amazing bagel place! I usually get a breakfast sandwich (with meat, egg, cheese) here on the everything bagel. If you ask, they can warm it up for you or toast it. You can only get 2 toppings on the breakfast sandwich though, but that is usually enough for me, and it is cheaper than a regular sandwich with meat. I suggest, if you don't want to stand in line, placing an order in advance. They have a pick-up counter that I make good use of. The line tends to get long, and making a bagel sandwich with quality takes a few minutes, so be prepared to wait if you don't place the order within 25-30min in advance online. The people here are always really friendly, too! I admit, I am addicted. I work too close to this place :P

Four stars for four words: bacon horseradish cream cheese. But really, minus a star because it's often super crowded, and the line moves fast--there's a lot of pressure to rush your order!

I love you Barry Bagels! There is not another place for bagels in the Ann Arbor area that stands close to you. Your Bagels, shmears, and bagel sandwiches are great! I have seen people get excited for the teething bagels and lunch specials.

Terrible, terrible service. It takes 2 minutes to cook a bagel and you end up waiting for 20. Ridiculous.

(to Chili's baby back ribs jingle) I want my bagel back, bagel back, bagel back... I want my bagel back, bagel back, bagel back... Barry's!...bagel sack, wins! Ok, gawd. I'm lame, but whatever...these bagels are good. Soft and doughy, fresh, fierce little suckers. Bagel Sanctuary. Onion Stix. Fresh outta the oven... Little mounds of dough fill your belly. Cream cheese. Hot 'n toasty. My cab driver (Metroride, props!) swung me by this spot when I mentioned I'd be eating breakfast at the Detroit airport. He just couldn't believe I'd pass up a chance at Barry's Bagels, and golldarnit...he was spot on. This is a damn good place for a bagel fix, and they move it along right quick, too. A great spot for a cuppa joe and carb balls...most definitely, a winner. Cheap, too...my bagel toasted with generous heaps of cream cheese was just over $2. Service is fast, if a little unenthused...but hey, I'd be grouchy too if I had to watch OTHER people eat these bagels all day, so I'll let it slide. See you next time in A2 and happen to be eating carbs at the time, Barry! :)

I like Barry's. Their bagels are crisp yet appropriately chewy when toasted. They are obviously fresh and they seem to have most of the varieties all day unlike some places that do not stock enough. They have a wide selection of bagels and cream cheeses. My faves are salt and sesame. I also really like they carry decent lox as I am a lox fan and I think you need it from time to time with your bagels. My father is very fond of their onion styx so I usually will bring him a couple back when I make the trek. Barry's is convenient to Nicola's books, my car dealership and one of my fave spa places so I love the locale. If I head out to Jackson Rd I like to be able to multitask. I have never much noticed the service which means it must be ok, the atmosphere is not much to write home about but is clean and works. I usually just drink a pop with my bagel but the one time I had a cafe au lait it was good. All in all a nice stop.

Tasty, quick, best bagels in town! Staff are always friendly. My only complaints are it can get messy from time to time and mid-day parking can be a pain!

I stopped eating bagels everywhere else after I ate Barry's Bagels. Nothing comes even close as all other bagels are way too hard and chewy. Barry's are great just by themselves.

These bagels remind me of those you can find in Skokie, IL (suburb of Chicago). I always get a Barry's dozen with a mix of onion and egg.

I love Barry's Bagels! They've got great bagels and coffee! Lines move FAST, and they have some outlets for bagel lovers with laptops. Staff has always been friendly and prompt. I will continue to be a fan.

Yummy! Super soft, melt in your mouth bagels that I could easily eat more than one of. The cinnamon bagel with cream cheese is delicious.

This is, hands down, my favorite bagel shop. I've been going here since I was a little kid and it's always one of the things I would look forward to when visiting Ann Arbor. Now that I spend most of the year up here, I can eat at Barry's whenever I want and it's just as good every time. It's a nice place inside, always very clean, smells like bagels being cooked, and not too loud. You wait by the counter for someone to take your order, so be prepared for a line. Even if the line goes to the door, it will only take a few minutes and is definitely worth the wait. There is a very wide selection of bagels and just as many choices of toppings. There are flavored cream cheeses, sandwiches, and eggels to name a few (an eggel is a toasted bagel with a grilled egg, cheese and optionally meat). There's really nothing there I wouldn't eat, everything is great. The only complaint I have about the menu is the cost of a sandwich. My sandwich (which has no meat, a little cheese and what should be free toppings) costs close to $8. That is the ONLY complaint I have here though. You can get a dozen bagels (14 to be specific) for the same price. There is a wide selection of juice, milk, soda, coffee and flavored water as well as a good selection of sides like chips, potato salad and macaroni salad. These aren't the thin, tasteless bagels you'll find at Panera, but thick, flavorful bagels that are often right out of the oven. Whether you're in Ann Arbor for the day or if you live here year-round, Barry Bagels is a must. I cannot recommend it highly enough, no other bagel shops can compare. Bring your laptop or iPad and enjoy the free WiFi and the delicious food, you will not be disappointed.

I went there for the first time and ordered an onion bagel with Turkey, lettuce, tomatoes, provolone and plain mustard. I added a medium coke and it came to 10.05!!!! Are they insane???!!! I don't mind spending money on a good sandwich with chips and a pickle but this was crazy expensive and the taste was just ok. Won't be going back because I guess I am too cheap. The place was also verY dirty.

  • Clarence C.

Decent cup off coffee and a bagel right next door to Nicola's Books. It's really all about the location. There don't seem to be enough coffee shops on the west side. If you happen to get out this way, there isn't a better place to bet a cup of black gold.

Tired, dirty, dated 1980s decor and often rude staff. The bagels are good, nothing to write home about, but really the food is okay at best and the atmosphere makes it not worth my time.

You know, there are those kinds of breakfast places that you go with your in-laws, and the ones that you goto every Saturday with a newspaper and your favorite baseball cap. Well, there's one more kind. The reliable place you can get through in 6.5 minutes and end up with a good breakfast sandwich, a scrumptious lemon-poppyseed muffin and coffee that will make your hair stand on end. This is the latter... everytime we need something reliable and quick as we're out the door somewhere, this is our place. Good bfast sandwiches, strong coffee and reliably good bagels and muffins. THAT's what I'm talking about!

There's no question these are my favorite bagels in Ann Arbor. I've been coming here since I was a tiny little kid, and have yet to be disappointed. I'm not really into bagel sandwiches. In fact (gasp!) I'm not even into cream cheese. However, I do think that bagel texture is important! And that's where Barry is waaay above the rest (Bagel Fragel may come close). When toasted, the outside of Barry's bagels have that light crispiness, while the inside is still slightly dough-y. Mmmm... just thinking about it make me want to have a toasted salt bagel slathered in butter right now. But, tough luck for me, bagel places aren't exactly open in the late evening! Sometimes there are helpers who seem a little young - like maybe they are local high school students, and sometimes you catch some gossipy-ness, but hey, they get you your bagels reasonably fast, so I can't really complain! Oh, they also have Odwalla and assorted other juices, too. Plus, they have wifi, though when there are little kids running around it's not exactly the most peaceful place to work! But again... you are here for the *bagels,* not the wifi!

Love the bagels and cream cheese, always a hit whenever I bring them into the office. No different today, bagels were on the mark once again. I got 4 everything, vanilla cinnamon, and asiago cheese and 2 plain with 1/2 lb plain and 1/2 lb brown sugar cream cheese. The vanilla cinnamon and brown sugar cream cheese are always a favorite among coworkers.

  • Julie M.

The bagels are too soft and fluffy, the coffee is bitter and dark. And the service is grumpy & incredibly slow. You get precisely the opposite when you visit Zingerman's Roadshow in the SAME parking lot.

  • Hannah L.

These bagels were delicious! Service was quick and friendly. Our first time here, we had a living social deal to use and when I placed my order this morning the woman was very friendly and reminded me to bring the coupon with when I picked up the bagels. I was afraid they would be very busy and rushed since the living social deal expires in a few days and figured people would be in hurry to use the deal before it expired. Service was fast but I didn't feel rushed and the cashier was friendly and efficient. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it's a little far for me to get to. It's pretty much on the other side of town and can be difficult to navigate in and out of the Westgate shopping center when traffic is heavy. I'm definitely looking forward to going back and trying other items on the menu.

  • TJ H.

I didn't really want to like this place. The service as others have mentioned is not spectacular. That being said, they make a fine sandwich. The bagels are really good. Something about this place, if I'm on this side of town with 7 or 8 bucks to blow I don't mind blowing it here. I say the sandwich is a little overpriced but the fare is unique and well executed to the point that I just don't care. I'm going to have to get a couple of onion styx next time I'm there. It probably comes down the fact they use high quality ingredients. I had a wonderful turkey pastrami sandwich on a toasted garlic bagel with hot mustard, mayo, and lettuce. I know others will hate for me this, but its kind of like zingermans light. Everything is toned down including the price but you still get high quality eats.

I love this place. i've going here since as long as i can remember, and miss it dearly since i've moved away! these bagels are what bagels should be - fat, soft, fresh. mmmmmm. Honestly, I would give my right arm to have a Barry's near me, they are the best. the atmosphere leaves something to be desired, but i actually love that it hasn't changed since i was a kid. This is a must-go! and eat a cranberry bagel for me.

I used to go to this place every Sunday for a few years, with good reason. They have an awesome setup. They do bagels and coffee, and also have a full deli. This makes for a wonderful breakfast experience. They do a whole line of breakfast bagel sandwiches, as well as cold pasta salads, deli sandwiches, and anything else you could think of that comes out of a deli. I've had just about everything they make, and it's all amazing. But the breakfast bagels still hold a special place in my heart. Someone from Mc D's must have had breakfast here once, and then tried to copy Barry Bagels' breakfast. These are inspiring bagels stuffed with egg, cheese, and whatever else your heart fancies! And I'd have to give them full stars based on the fact that they were always cheap breakfasts. Even when I ordered two breakfast bagels, two sides, and coffees it was never more than $12. I'd spend more than that at a coney! And that's never good... It's a five minute or less drive out of downtown, and well worth the effort. Give it a shot; you'll be pleasantly surprised and ready to go back to sleep!

The best bagels in town, I love you Barry's. The bagels have the right texture, chewiness and softness, and the kids can watch them make bagels. How cool is that? And I love how they have that odwalla smoothie fride, because those are great too. I wish all bagels were good enough for yours, Barry's!

When I used to work on this side of town, I'd eat Barry Bagels once a week, either on my own dime or when co-workers would bring in a bag for everyone. I like their wide selection of bagels, and the coffee is good here, too. The store is always packed with regulars when I come in around 8 a.m., but they always manage to serve everyone pretty quickly. My favorite is to get their "Eggel," which is a bagel with a scrambled egg. I always got mine with cheese, but you can also add sausage. I liked that I could mix and match bagels and cheese varieties and never eat the same sandwich twice. One time I might get the sun-dried tomato bagel with havarti, and another time I'd get the dark pumpernickel bagel with swiss. They're delicious but a little greasy, so have plenty of napkins on hand if you plan to eat one of these.

Deducted a star. If you read my previous review, they have the best bagels in town and great deli sandwiches, etc. Really delicious stuff. However, their service has got me so frustrated I had to deduct. When your order is taken, you move up in line, but you don't get to pay. So while they are (slowly, so slowly) making your order, you can't pay while it's being made. You have to wait until it's made and then wait for longer to pay. I specifically asked today, "Can I pay while you're making it? I'm in a hurry" and she basically told me no, "The person who takes your order helps you until you pay." So no, even if you're standing at the register with your money and there is a worker at the register, that worker cannot ring you up if it's not the person who took your order. Super inefficient system, it's maddening. They need to re-think it, it's unorganized and takes twice as long as necessary.

Barry's has the best bagels I've ever tasted. I have to have one at least once a week. The everything bagel is my favorite, but the sundried tomato bagel, or just a simple sesame bagel are nice when I like to change it up.

Bagels of your childhood? They don't exist any more. Deal with it. But you can get some good modern bagels (the huge fat kind), salt sticks, bagel or deli sandwiches, muffins, and not-bad coffee or soft drinks here. Better than Panera bagels IMHO, but of course bagel quality is as contentious as politics. Also, Barry's offers a nice area to sit and talk with your friends -- in fact I think maybe they have new chairs. Then you can browse Nicola's Books or the library or T.J.Maxx and have a nice little shopping day. Also there's free wireless access in Barry's. All in all, it's a pleasant little mall: not pretentious, no excessive expectations, just pleasant.

When I lived in CA I became addicted to Noah's chocolate chip bagels. Barry's has got some remarkably Noah's-like chocolate chip bagels. I'm just sorry I lived here six years before wandering in. WIN.

This place sucks. Flavorless bagels and overpriced sandwiches and coffee. Their small coffee is smaller than your average small, except the price is not. Anyone who says this place is good has obviously not been to many other places.
